Overview: The Buffet Food Runner (Full-Time) delivers and replenishes high quality food based on guidelines set by their supervisors in a friendly and customer service oriented manner, and is responsible for the timely and accurate set up of all buffets and/or food outlets.
Responsibilities: Set up buffet/food outlets in accordance with standards set by the Chef and the hotel.
Ensure that all food on the buffet looks and visually appealing up to Highgate Hotels standards.
Each station should be continually wiped down and cleaned up.
Rotate food and beverages by using the oldest first.
Making sure serving food portions are accurate.
Complete set up of the buffet line/food outlets 15 minutes prior to its scheduled opening time.
Making sure food is prepared and served according to hotel recipe card and plating guide specifications.
Check heating fuel and ice glows regularly to insure proper temperatures.
Make sure each item on the buffet line has the proper buffet tag.
Maintain clean and sanitary environment with knowledge of proper food handling, storage, and sanitation to facilitate high volume production.
Assist co-workers in cleaning outlet before and after shift.
Be aware of guests’ needs; assist in providing a pleasant dining experience.
Make sure all food items are stored properly according to health department regulations.
Make sure all working areas and equipment are properly cleaned and sanitized.
Ensure all cooking and electrical equipment is turned off at the end of the shift.
Be familiar with all food items and assist guests in selections as needed.
Recognize quality standards in fresh vegetables, fish, dairy and meats.
Responsible for coordinating with kitchen and pastry shop in replenishing food for the buffet and food outlets.
Obtain all necessary supplies and equipment to perform duties, including stocking of all china and silver as needed.
Perform other duties as requested by management.
Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent and/or experience in a hotel or related field preferred.
Experience in hotel or related field preferred.
Flexible and long hours sometimes required.
Medium work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times.
Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all level of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner.
Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests.
Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner.
Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings.
Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel.
Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which includes wearing the proper uniform and nametag.
Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas and assist in implementing solutions.
Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
Must be able to understand and apply complex information, data, etc.
from various sources to meet appropriate objectives.
Must be able to cross-train in other hotel related areas.
Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information.
