Duties and Responsibilities
1.
**Serves as a digital library software developer.
2.
**Propose, conceptualize, design, implement, and develop solutions for complex digital library access and delivery systems independently, including, but not limited to repositories, web development and discovery systems, and programming and migration support for digital content management and repository systems and technologies, and the ability to evaluate and apply principles, concepts, and current methodologies.
3.
Participate in technical planning, development sprints, and work cycles, collaborating with other software engineers, user experience designers, and other colleagues to design, develop, and implement applications.
4.
**Document system builds and application configurations; maintain and update documentation as needed.
5.
**Provide technical analysis, design, development, conversion, and implementation work.
6.
**Work as a project leader, as needed, for projects of moderate complexity and participate in setting technical strategy on new and emerging programmatic areas.
7.
**Serve as a technical resource for applications.
8.
Compare, evaluate, and implement new features and technologies, and integrate them into the computing environment.
9.
**Help set software and development practices and processes.
10.
**Understand and follow software development practices and processes, including security procedures.
11.
Mentor lower-level software developers.
12.
Contribute in a positive way to team culture.
13.
Other duties as assigned.
**Denotes Essential Functions Minimum Qualifications 1.
Possession of a pertinent baccalaureate educational degree in information or computer science, management information systems, or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for web development, of which 2 years of the experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to the next lower payband in the University of Hawai'i broadband system; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
2.
Considerable working knowledge of software development including designing, developing, testing and deploying applications as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving information technology concepts, principles and methodologies.
3.
Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology, systems, hardware and software associated with software development, programming and migration support for digital content management and repository systems and technologies, and the ability to evaluate and apply principles, concepts, and current methodologies.
4.
Demonstrated ability to recognize a wide range of intricate problems, use reasoning and logic to determine accurate causes, and apply principles and practices to determine, evaluate, integrate, and implement practical and thorough solutions in an effective and timely manner.
5.
Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
6.
Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
7.
If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
8.
Proficiency with application design and data modeling.
9.
Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.
10.
Strong communications skills with both technical and non-technical clients.
11.
Ability to facilitate activities on structured team development projects.
12.
Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
13.
Strong knowledge of more than one programming language, such as C++, Rust, Python, Ruby, and JavaScript.
Desirable Qualifications: 1.
Relevant experience in digital library, digital humanities projects, data analysis, or data transformation.
2.
Relevant experience in visualization, search/browse, geospatial information systems, or other discovery interfaces.
3.
Experience in modern full stack web development, such as with Flask, Django, Ruby on Rails, and React.
4.
Image processing or streaming media, such as through the International Image Interoperability Framework (IIIF).
5.
Understanding of IT security and expertise in proactively applying considerations to all aspects of position.
6.
Experience writing and implementing Application Programming Interfaces (API) for a wide range of applications and need.
