In addition to a state-of-the-art laboratory, the organization manages two ecologically distinct experimental research farms located on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.
HARC went through a contraction period during Hawaii's transition of agriculture commodities in the early 2000's followed by a period of stabilization.
The organization is now experiencing an accelerated growth period responding to a global shift in agriculture values by incorporating a broader, more interdisciplinary perspective to our research.
Innovation, collaboration, continuous improvement, and community are key values and central to our research initiatives.
Consequently, HARC is seeking a dynamic and effective leader to guide our growing team through this revitalization.
*Current Research Areas*: Agrivoltaic, Bioenergy, Cacao, Climate Smart Agriculture and Forestry, Coffee, Forestry, Tropical Fruits & Flowers, and Anthurium.
Proactive and responsive, we are continuously exploring and responding to community and sector needs.
*Fee-based Services*: Winter Nursery, Grow-outs, Seed Production, Micropropagation, and Facilities.
*Responsibilities and Functions:* Leads, directs and guides the execution of HARC's mission; Develops, maintains and supports a strong Board of Directors: serves as ex-officio of each committee, seeks and builds Board involvement; Works with the Board of Directors to create goals for the sustainability of the organization and executes the work and programs consistently and timely to achieve those goals; Grows the organization while finding ways to meet financial and operational needs; Recruits, retains and manages effective staff.
Motivates and supports the Assistant Directors to motivate the staff to improve performance and develop an organizational culture; Develops effective system to track progress, and regularly evaluates program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the Board, funders, donors and other constituents; Enhances and expands relationships within the community; Seeks and coordinates appropriate partnerships to achieve its mission; Represents the organization to regulatory bodies, other agencies, community and agricultural organizations, donors, funders, supporters and the general public; Identifies critical issues which may affect HARC and plans, develops and implements appropriate strategies in response; Maintains relationship with Kunia Village Title Holding corporation, HARC's supporting 501(c)(2) tax exempt organization and recommends potential KVTHC Board members to HARC Board for approval.
*Minimum Qualifications:* Advanced Degree in agriculture, natural resources, business, or related fields; 5 to 10 years of management experience; preferably in agriculture or a science-related area; Written and Verbal fluency in English; Excellent communication and presentation skills; Computer skills (Microsoft applications); Experience in communicating with diverse cultures in Hawaii; Experience in budget development and management.
*Desired Qualifications:* Demonstrated success in leading others to achieve and sustain excellence in research; High energy, creative, self-motivated; Well-organized team player; Successful grant-writing and/or fund-raising history; Advanced courses in biotechnology, conservation, environmental science, genomics, soil health and/or plant breeding *Start Date: *Est.
April 2024 *Salary:* Salary is negotiable based on experience.
