Fleet Manager Trucking & Transportation Location: Hawaii Job Type: Full Time Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000/yr Overview: Seeking a strategic and compliance focused Fleet Manager to lead our motor vehicle operations in Hawaii.
It is crucial for the person in this role to navigate the complexities of DOT and FMCSA compliance for employees and equipment while managing the acquisition, operations, and maintenance of our fleet.
The position demands a proactive leader who can ensure our operations not only align with laws and regulations but also cater to the unique logistical and regulatory landscapes and demands of each location in Hawaii.
The successful candidate will oversee all commercial vehicles, drivers, and related assets including their operations, conditions, external and internal policy compliance and overall performance.
Key Responsibilities: Strategic DOT Compliance: Serve as the primary officer for DOT compliance, ensuring fleet operations and drivers meet or exceed regulatory standards across all locations.
Maintain files for all drivers and vehicles.
Comprehensive Vehicle Lifecycle Management: Evaluate, acquire, lease, and dispose of vehicles to maintain a high performing and compliant fleet suitable for the unique demands of each location.
Vendor and Service Provider Engagement: Establish and maintain strong relationships with local and national vendors for fuel, maintenance, and other essential services, emphasizing quality and compliance.
Insurance and Regulatory Compliance: Manage insurance policies, negotiate agreements, and lead claim resolutions, ensuring adherence to DOT, OSHA, and local regulations.
Oversee the administrative process for maintaining vehicle licenses, registration and insurance.
Safety and Maintenance Leadership: Implement safety protocols, preventive maintenance schedules, and accident prevention strategies, customized for each geographical area.
Focused Financial Oversight: Direct fleet expenses and budgeting, prioritizing compliance related expenditures and operational efficiency across all locations.
Leadership in Compliance and Excellence: Inspire a culture of compliance and operational excellence within the team, with authority over personnel actions and a commitment to high standards in training and evaluation.
Policies: Work with Human Resources to review and maintain our driver specific policies including drug and alcohol testing.
Best Use Management: Review of vehicle scheduling and dispatch to ensure maximum efficiency and profitability.
Assist local operations with improving their asset utilization and route planning.
Assist Local Maintenance Teams: Work closely with each business unit to ensure swift and secure resolution of mechanical issues to minimize downtime and ensure efficient restoration of operations.
Hazardous Materials: Oversee and ensure compliance with transportation regulations for Hazardous Materials (HazMat) to guarantee the safe and lawful transportation of these materials and employee training Travel: You must be able to travel regularly to all locations.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Logistics, or related field, or equivalent experience.
At least 5 years of fleet management experience, with a deep emphasis on DOT compliance and a strong understanding of the logistical nuances of Hawaii.
Minimum 10 years of supervisory experience in a compliance focused setting.
Comprehensive knowledge of DOT regulations, vehicle inspection standards, and fleet management best practices, with a successful compliance track record.
Exceptional negotiation, organizational, and analytical skills, capable of addressing compliance challenges unique to each location.
Strong communication abilities, adept at building a compliance focused culture and fostering relationships across diverse geographical areas.
Physical Requirements: Mobility: Ability to travel frequently between various locations, to oversee operations and meet with teams and vendors.
Physical Activity: Capable of conducting onsite inspections of vehicles and operations, which may involve walking, standing, stooping, bending, and lifting objects up to 25 pounds.
Visual and Auditory Acuity: Must have the visual and auditory acuity necessary to maintain safety standards and manage documentation, reports, and computer-based work.
Environmental Conditions: Comfortable working in a variety of environmental conditions, including outdoor areas, workshops, and office settings, adapting to the climate variations of each location.
