POSITION SUMMARY:
Teen Leaders are responsible for ensuring the quality of enrichment activities of the program model.
Teen Leaders must provide a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment consistent with the program model and goals and ensure the success of students.
Teen Leaders will lead after school activities including, but not limited to physical education, community time, college and career exploration, and academic support.
Teen Leaders report directly to the Site Coordinator and/or Program Director.
The Teen Leader will comply and adhere to all standards, policies, and procedures set by the YMCA of Honolulu and HIDOE.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB DUTIES:
Assists Site Coordinator in the overall program operation and supervision of participants while adhering to program policies and standard operating procedures.
Develop and implement curriculum by leading age- developmentally-appropriate learning experiences in the classroom or group settings, ensuring a safe and nurturing environment.
Facilitates programming that invites exploration, promotes positive play, and welcomes teens in an all-inclusive environment.
Communicate effectively, consistently, and professionally with participants, parents, co-workers, and others associated with the program such as DOE and DHS contacts.
Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the teens assigned as well as all other teens in the program that may not be overseen directly.
Serve as a role model by relating to program participants through respect and understanding, and providing guidance toward positive teen development.
Maintain accurate participant records and documentation as assigned, following program requirements.
Attend all general and site staff meetings and training sessions and give input.
Be open to criticism, suggestions, and training from other staff.
Assist with the responsibility to ensure all facilities, equipment, and supplies at the site are maintained/good/organized/clean.
Ensure that all staff and participants are respectful of facility/property, and all of their rules and expectations are followed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills/Knowledge:
Experience engaging middle school youth in recreation, leadership development, service learning, civic engagement, college and career pathways, and other personal development areas
Exercise mature judgment and sound decision-making
Possess a collaborative and flexible mindset that elevates youth voice and provide opportunities in areas where the candidate may not have expertise
Customer service oriented with strong interpersonal skills, well organized and multi-tasked oriented.
Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations
Must be proficient in Word and Excel programs, with Windows XP, Publisher, Power Point/ LCD projector preferred
Ability to operate other software applications as required
Education/Training:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Current enrollment in or graduation from a higher education program preferred
Experience facilitating teen group activities preferred
Develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds
CPR, AED, and First Aid certified (training available upon hire)
