Position Summary: We seek an instructor to support an interdisciplinary undergraduate program in Natural Resources and Environmental Management.
The individual will teach 5-6 courses per year (18-20 credits), including an innovative transdisciplinary course, NREM core courses, and NREM required electives.
The individual will advise NREM undergraduate majors (4-6 credit equivalent), and participate in programmatic curriculum redesign and innovation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruction (100%)
Teach 18-20 credit hour courses per year, including an introductory resource economics course (NREM 220 Agricultural and Resource Economics) and a new college-wide transdisciplinary course (CTAHR 491 Transdisciplinary Approaches in Sustainable Food Systems and Community Health).
Teach or co-teach other introductory and advanced undergraduate courses covering economics, sustainable systems, and skills and tools (GIS, modeling, and etc.
), depending on the expertise of the selected individual
Serves as an advisor to NREM undergraduate students in the Social Sciences track.
Performs related tasks as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Master’s degree from a college or university of recognized standing in an Interdisciplinary, Social Sciences, Natural Resources, or related field, with applications to natural resources and environmental management.
Strong quantitative skills, including economic analysis experience.
Teaching experience and evidence of effective teaching skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with diverse students and colleagues.
Desirable Qualifications:
PhD from a college or university of recognized standing in an Interdisciplinary or other Interdisciplinary, Social Sciences, Natural Resources, or related field, using integrated quantitative and qualitative methods to investigate natural resources and environmental management issues.
Ability to develop effective online instructional content.
Experience in curriculum development in interdisciplinary fields related to natural resource management.
Strong teaching evaluations.
Interdisciplinary natural resources/environmental sciences training and/or experience.
Training in leadership, business, and decision making.
Experience in academic advising or mentoring of students at the undergraduate level.
Record of professional presentations and publications.
Experience and evidence of effective mentoring and career guidance.
Experience working with resource management, agencies, and community groups in Hawai‘i.
