Interested in learning about computer systems and printers including how to set up and monitor them? What about establishing basic telecommunication/networking functions between modems, controllers, servers, hubs, switches and bridges? Or do you already have computer-related knowledge but want hands-on experience? Learn about computer systems and telecommunication/networking while working in a Data Center as a Computer Operator I with the City's Department of Information Technology, Operations Division, Computer Operations Section.
Your main focus is to acquire the basic skills necessary to monitor, control and respond to any data processing equipment and software within the Data Center, including mainframe computers, midrange computers, servers, workstations, and telecommunications/networking equipment.
This job requires moderate to heavy lifting of paper supplies, forms, and reports on a regular basis in support of normal printer operations.
Work schedules are eight hours per day, five days per week, on one of the following work shifts: 7:30 a.
m.
to 4:15 p.
m.
, or 11:45 p.
m.
to 8:00 a.
m.
You will be assigned a shift; however, you will be asked to cover for a different shift as needed.
Rotating days off and you will have to work weekends and holidays as needed.
If you qualify for the position, your name will be placed on an eligible list for further consideration.
This eligible list may also be used for current and future vacancies in this department.

Minimum Qualification Requirements At time of application, you must be a citizen, national or permanent resident alien of the United States or a non-citizen eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Equivalent to graduation from high school.
Responsible work experience that demonstrated the ability to perform the essential functions of the job may be substituted for education.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT: Two years of experience in an office environment which demonstrated effective use of personal computers, peripheral equipment, and applications such as word processing and electronic mail.
