POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Grounds Maintenance Foreman is responsible for the overall efficient, day-to-day operation and delivery of the groundskeeping services for our state, federal and private contractors throughout Oahu.
That includes training, evaluating, and managing personnel, supporting a safe work environment, ensuring quality standards, assists in training employees in proper Grounds procedures in the use and maintenance of tools, equipment, and vehicles for technical work and the technical aspects of installation, application, maintenance, and removal of plants and materials.
The Grounds Maintenance Foreman assists in ensuring compliance with AbilityOne requirements.
The Grounds Maintenance Foreman supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization, and upholds and enforces the guidelines and policies of the organization and demonstrates Lanakila Pacific’s values of teamwork, excellence, achievement, and motivation in all personal interactions and exemplifies Lanakila’s STAR service standards.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Program Implementation and Infrastructure Works on-site, performing all levels of grounds work either alone, as leader of a team, or as a leader of several teams simultaneously.
Provides on-site coordination of work for Grounds worker, temporary employees, and/or student workers directly by using both verbal and written instructions in compliance with the guidelines provided by the immediate supervisor and using independent judgment in instances not covered by the guidelines.
Trains Supervisors/ Lead and trainers on specialty equipment, operator safety and maintenance procedures.
Hazard communication, proper use, storage and disposal of all chemicals and cleaning of equipment before and after every use and ensure all safety precautions are always followed.
Ensures Supervisors/ Lead Trainers assign work to staff according to their abilities, goals, and production priorities.
Ensures Supervisors/ Lead Trainers are training staff to meet contractual and Lanakila Pacific standards.
Ensures that the quality of grounds work meets established guidelines by performing the work, participating in the development and revision of work guidelines, inspecting the work of grounds personnel, providing necessary training, and directing corrective measures to be taken to meet those guidelines.
Develops an effective team by instructing employees and supervising the proper use of tools, materials, and equipment for safe and efficient work performance and assuring that the work is accomplished in the most efficient manner possible.
Actively seeks and applies up to date technical knowledge by performing technical work or by leading a team in the performance of technical grounds work.
Selects, utilizes, and evaluates procedures, materials, tools, and equipment appropriate for the task.
May be assigned duties of the Grounds Supervisor in his/her absence.
Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Grounds Services Managers.
Contributes to the overall success of the Grounds Department by performing all other tasks assigned.
Manages Supervisors/Lead Trainers to ensure they successfully complete all ground maintenance tasks in accordance with contractual agreement requirements (as outlined in the scope of work in the service agreement) and department standards.
Simplifies work methods and improvise as necessary to increase and improve productivity.
Coordinate transportation of staff in a safe manner to respective worksites when necessary.
Maintains and replenishes inventory of supplies and equipment and safeguards all inventory to prevent waste and theft of supplies and equipment.
Maintenance of area, tools, and equipment Periodically checks facilities and storage sites to ensure proper housekeeping is always maintained.
Periodically checks facilities to ensure they are locked and secured.
Periodically checks equipment and tools to ensure they are in a safe and working condition prior to use.
Periodically checks to ensure equipment and tools are secured and in their proper location.
Periodically checks to ensure general cleaning is taking place at all sites.
Safety of Personnel and Security of Building Equipment Reviews daily safety briefings received from Grounds Services Worker Lead.
Reviews the weekly training logs and consolidates the information into the monthly training summary and follows Training Tracking Guidelines to submit to Executive Assistant monthly inclusion in the agencywide training log.
Inspects facilities on a periodic basis and coordinates removal of all fire and safety hazards in the area.
Checks to see if facility monthly inspections are performed.
Trains on proper use and operation of a fire extinguisher on a semi-annual basis.
Checks all fire extinguishers monthlyto ensure they are in an operational status.
Reports workplace injuries according to established procedures including calling Medcor immediately for instructions to care for injury and follow-up with incident report in a timely manner.
Ensures OSHA, Amry Corp EM 385, as well as company safety procedures and practices are followed and enforced.
Reporting Requirements: Ensures all Incident, Counseling, Training, Safety Inspection, Vehicle Inspections and Mileage reports are accurate and complete, must sign, date, and submit all documents on a timely basis.
Must review, sign, and date all documents and submit them to Director of Grounds & Custodial Services.
Assists in conducting periodic inspections of work-in-progress and completed tasks to assure quality of work performed.
Other Duties: Demonstrates cultural competency and the ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures, socio-economic backgrounds, and cognitive abilities without bias.
Serves as a role model for the staff, participants, and volunteers and as a member of the leadership team works to create a healthful and respectful environment.
Supervises and directs the day-to-day work of staff, assists with performance evaluations and improvement plans as needed, and appropriately addresses complaints, documents incidents and disciplines employees.
Participates in the recruitment process and makes recommendations for hiring.
Assures safeguards and proper safety gear are maintained and available, such as gloves, glasses, ear, and head protection are used when appropriate.
Demonstrates the ability to work with confidential information and comply with established policies, procedures, and practices.
Demonstrates a willingness to gain and possess thorough knowledge of Lanakila Pacific’s programs and seeks ongoing educational opportunities related to the position.
Performs other related business duties as assigned, including program promotion, representing the organization at events, and participating in fundraising activities.
Completes training as mandated by organizational policy.

Experience: Minimum 2 years of related work in grounds maintenance services; Minimum 1 year of supervisory or management work Clearance/Certification: 1) TB clearance, 2) Criminal background check; 3) Pre-employment drug; 4) Child Protective Service/Adult Protective Service check; 5) Military Base access (Obtain on the job).
Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract CPR/First Aid Certification (Obtain on the job) Preferred: Experience: Service Contract Act (SCA) contracts Certification: OSHA 30 Hour Safety Class Training Card
