Position Summary: :
PSI is the largest privately owned shipyard in Hawaii, with two of the largest dry docks in the state.
We have been in business since 1944 and have a large labor force of skilled craftsman with a full support staff of professionals who comprise of engineering, project management, QA, EHS, accounting, contracts, and human resources.
Marine Electricians are responsible for the installation, test and repair or marine cables and equipment, installation and connection of lighting, electrical power, troubleshooting and repair of shipboard and facilities electrical systems.
The Marine Electrician will be required to use and maintain hand and power tools, various test equipment.
Must be able to read blueprints, drawings, and schematics.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: - Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, based on job specifications and local codes.
- Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
- Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using testing devices, such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, or oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.
- Use a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment, such as oscilloscopes, ammeters, or test lamps.
- Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes.
- Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to determine the location of wiring or equipment and to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
- Diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatus, or components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem.
- Advise management on whether continued operation of equipment could be hazardous.
- Place conduit, pipes, or tubing, inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pull insulated wires or cables through the conduit to complete circuits between boxes.
- Direct or train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
- Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures, using hand tools or power tools.
- Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment, such as motors.
- Assemble, install, test, or maintain electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, appliances, Perform business management duties, such as maintaining records or files, preparing reports, or ordering supplies or equipment.
- Fasten small metal or plastic boxes to walls to house electrical switches or outlets.
- Construct or fabricate parts, using hand tools, according to specifications.
- Perform physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit or moving or lifting heavy objects.
- Provide assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights or generators, placing flares, or driving needed vehicles.
- Provide preliminary sketches or cost estimates for materials or services.
- Assist with the set-up and preventive maintenance of equipment - Learn to operate equipment, including forklifts and manlifts - Perform other duties as assigned Skills/Technical Knowledge:: - Time management skills - Ability to communicate clearly and thoroughly - Problem solving/analysis - Good attitude; must be a team player Education, Training & Experience:: - Shipyard/Industrial Experience valuable - Flexibility in work.
Candidates must be available to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts as required.
- Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet governmental regulations.
Physical Demands:: - Must be able to carry, lift, push/pull, bend, and squat up to 50 lbs.
Description of Work Environment:: - Work from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
- This position is identified as safety sensitive due to the nature of the work, shipyard work environment, various federal/state/local safety regulations, and equipment used.
- Exposure to heat, dust, humidity, rain, sun, and wind.
- Equipment and operational noise levels exceeding 85 decibels - Powered vehicle exhaust - Paint fumes - Slip, trip, and fall hazards - Overhead movement of objects Qualification/Requirements:: - Must show proof of your legal right to work in the United States - This position requires US Citizenship due to clearance required for base access - Must be able to successfully obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) - Must be able to successfully obtain and maintain a Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS) Credential to gain access to federally controlled work sites - All candidates must submit to and pass a post-offer drug screening, physical test and a background check before employment begins.
