Salary Range: $80,000-$110,000 JOB TITLE: Estimator BUSINESS SERVICE LINE: PAC – Honolulu Office REPORTS TO: Senior Project Manager/Program Manager SUMMARY: As an Estimator, you will assume a key role in managing and overseeing projects from the Pre-Proposal stage through the bidding, negotiation, and into the Pre-execution/Buy-out stage.
You are responsible for preparing and/or coordination the preparation of full estimates on large and complex projects as required by clients’ documents and provides complete conceptual and total bid price.
You will work closely with the project and or program managers to assess project Selection and bid viability, review initial RFP documents, prepare Sub-Contractor Scopes of Work (SOW) develop internal estimates and review Sub proposals for scope gaps and overall completeness.
Your strong leadership abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills will contribute to the efficient preparation and completion of project bids.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Reviews and evaluates requests for proposals/quotes/estimates.
Collaborate with the project or program manager to determine viability of projects and determine Go/No-Go status of all bids.
Prepare initial project schedule for bidding and timeline validation.
Prepares weekly bid calendar and ensures timely completion of estimates.
Reviews estimates and revisions for completeness and accuracy.
Create, manage and maintain project bid folders.
Reviews construction documents and understand the scope of work to bid.
Perform take-offs of contract documents, and obtain pricing for materials.
Input takeoffs, hour estimates, material estimates and Sub-contractor proposals into spreadsheet.
Coordinate and communicate with project stakeholders, including clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal team members, to verify scope coverage Prepares cost analysis by verifying material, labor, equipment, subcontractor and overhead costs incurred in the installation of items Where predetermined standard(s) for installation and construction are not available, determine a viable standard to be used and prepare an estimate for the estimated effort.
Informs Project/Program Manager of any observed inaccuracies or omissions in quoted items or computer database.
Develops and maintains resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, government requirements, etc.
Photocopy plans, specifications, and other documents as requested/needed.
Contribute to the preparation of project budgets, cost estimates, and financial forecasts, monitoring project expenses, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
Stay updated with industry trends, regulations, and best practices in project management, incorporating relevant knowledge into project activities.
Performs other related duties as assigned by management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: No Direct Supervisory responsibilities QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or general education degree (GED), Four (4) Years of related industry experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Bachelor's Degree (BA) from four-year college or university, or one to two years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
A minimum of 4 years of experience in construction cost estimation.
Previous experience in Construction management or a related role, demonstrating a solid understanding of construction principles and methodologies.
Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively communicate with diverse stakeholders.
Proficiency in Estimating software and tools, such as Microsoft Excel, RS Means, or similar applications.
Strong problem-solving skills, with a proactive and solutions-oriented mindset.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build positive relationships with stakeholders.
Knowledge of construction processes, regulations, and industry best practices.
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with the ability to analyze project data, identify trends, and make data-driven recommendations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Frequently required to stand, walk, and sit for extended periods.
Continually required to use hand and finger dexterity for typing and handling documents.
Continually required to talk or hear Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision Occasionally required to bend, stoop, kneel, or crawl.
Occasionally required to lift and carry project materials or equipment.
The work environment is typically a mix of office and field setting with moderate noise levels.
